When I look at my own media usage over the course of a day, I realize that media is everywhere in my life. I always have my cell phone on me whether I’m at class or at work, or even just in my pocket when I’m home. I am constantly checking my phone too see if anyone has sent me a text message or if I have missed a call. I don’t spend much time talking on the phone, but I do spend a fair amount of time texting on it. The television is normally on in my apartment if some one is there and is normally set on ESPN, Comedy Central, The Discovery Channel, or one of the various major broadcasting channels. I use the internet just as much as the other two media outlets I find that the internet is the fast way for me to get to the news stories I want to hear and also to find out the scores to the different sporting events. I also send a good portion of time on Facebook and Myspace. I do have a couple magazines around the apartment and do frequently read the DE but they are my least used media outlets. The radio is either a really big media source for me or it doesn’t get used at all. I don’t listen to the radio when I am at home because I have my own music. I don’t really listen to the radio when I am in the car because I have an IPod and CD’s to listen too. When I do listen to the radio it is normally at work. I will have the radio on for at least 4 hours while I’m working and normally have the channel tuned into a classic rock channel or I will have it on the alternative rock channel. I also listen to the radio when I cannot get the Chicago Cubs game on television. So that is another 3 ½ hours of uninterrupted air time that I’m focused on what is happening in the baseball game.
If was in charge of placing advertisement in certain areas of my life the best places to reach me would be the commercials between sporting events. If there were an ad placed between the score. It is a spot that is constantly looked at by people watching the game and is also the first thing looked at when a new viewer tunes into a game. I would also put as many ads as I possibly could on or around my cell phone. It is something that is always with me and I would see the ad more then twice or even 3 times a day. I would also focus my ads to the times I would work. Most of the time when I am at school working I work between the hours or 4-9 P.M. So I would focus my main ads during this time period. Unless it was a Chicago Cubs baseball game, most the their games start at 1:20 P.M. so I would have my ads placed near the front and end of the game when most people are tuning into the game.
